Special Olympics SUP Coaches Training at YOLO Board + Beach this SAT!

On Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 9am Special Olympics Florida will be offering a FREE stand up paddleboard coaches training school at YOLO Board + Beach in Miramar Beach, Florida. This training is open to anyone who would like to work with a county in Florida to develop a Registered Training Program.

Stand Up Paddle offers a totally unique opportunity for Special Olympics Athletes to move a  “step beyond” normal sports activities. It is an excellent physical challenge on its own and also an outstanding adjunct training for other sports offered in Special Olympics.  It is also clearly a community-based opportunity that would permit Special Olympics to increase their involvement in community-based activities outside of the Special Olympics sphere.

"It is a pleasure to see the joy in the faces of the athletes who have never tried stand-up.  They love it!"  says Ruth Finch Holland, Special Olympics SUP coordinator for Monroe County, FL.

Stand Up Paddle is a joint venture between Special Olympics Florida, SOFL county
programs and Stand Up Paddle communities in Florida.  Currently, Stand Up Paddle in Special Olympics Florida is strictly a local training initiative.  No state, area or county level competition will be conducted until a minimum of 10 counties have Registered Training
Programs.  Special Olympics County SUP Training programs must follow SOFL Registered Training Programs policies and procedures and register as a “Registered Training Program” with SOFL prior to conducting any training activities. All
people working with Special Olympic athletes in a Registered Training Program
must be trained in Special Olympics policies via a training school.

To register for the training to be held at YOLO Board + Beach 11610 US Hwy 98 W, Santa Rosa Beach, FL  32550, or find out more please contact MJ Weibling at [email protected] or Ruth Holland at [email protected].
