Adventures of Dancing Bear with YOLO in Costa Rica

Today is secret spot day… Alvaro is taking us out to the secret spot this morning he is saying that it might be chest to head high..So the is to load everything up around 5:30 am and headed north of Jaco about an hour drive to a spot south of Boca Barranca. Alvaro had arranged for two boats to take us out 3 miles out to a point break…Now these boats were not what I had imagined, but the good news is that they did float…You can tell from some of the pics these were very small boats and to load up 9 YOLO's, it was truly a sight. According to many people that have surf point breaks before tell me that I'll never want to surf a beach break again. Point breaks are sweet and perfect for a goofy footer…Alvaro informed us that the break wasn't quite ready for us yet, about another 2 hours for the wind and the tides to change....In the meantime there happen to be a breakfast place across the street and we were all starving again so we did what we all do best "EAT"...

So after a great meal agin we loaded up the boats and of course we couldn't all fit so 4 of us had to paddle 3 miles and follow the boats....The good news is it was a down winder because the wind had not stop it only got worst... Brody took the 12ft Bamboo YOLO with Titti on board and Alvaro, Mark, and myself took off on 10"6's...We caught some many runners that is was just as good as surfing...Oh yea the boats were so old that we had beat them there…Once we found the secret spot we tried to surf it but it wasn't going to happen today. The wind was just to much, supposedly it was that cold front that hit Florida this week was moving through the area…Alvaro, Brody and I were the only ones to catch anything, the wind kept blowing me off my board...

The first boat of paddlers didn't even get out, they turned around headed back. By the way they were in the smaller boat and it was a very wet ride, just ask Phil McDonald (sorry Phil)...So we loaded the other boat up again and started going further south now to the actual secret spot…Alvaro he wasn't sure if we were ready for secrecy spot yet...LOL..It was just to windy he didn't want to waste our time and they boated us out there any way and it was very cool...The ride back was fun and fortunately it was dry...

Alvaro had warned us that it might be good and gave us a choice of here or Jaco…We should have had tried Jaco... But this is what adventure is all an about and I would not change a thing... Alvaro took us to Jaco anyway for afternoon session at south Jaco beach. There was at least 9 paddlers for this session and this cove was completely protected by the wind which made it very glassy. The waves were perfect and the sunset was unbelievable, once the sun went down we continued to surf until all the sunlight had disappeared. I don't know if Hollywood could have made a more beautiful backdrop. This was the ending to a perfect day here in Jaco...

The next day was the last day for several of our crew and we had to get one more YOLO session in before they all headed to San Jose... So some early coffee and a 6:00 am session at Hermosa was a great way to send these guys off…Hermosa was smooth and fast with late take offs. Just another killer wave one after another...I never had caught so many perfect waves in my life…Once 9:00 am rolled around it was time to pack it up and say our goodbyes to each other and the awesome staff at Vista Guapa ...Thanks again Alvaro, Wendy and all the amazing staff that made our trip one to remember the rest of our lives... Once the goodbyes were final Jeff, Michaele, Chandler and I started our 5 1/2 drive to the Zancuda Lodge which is between Gulfito and Pavones.
