TeamDetails

Originally from England, Sue left her home of Darien, CT and a successful job in the corporate world at the age of 27 to open her own business, Lazy Dog, and to enjoy the island life in Key West, FL. Lazy Dog offers the largest fleet of kayaks and paddleboards in Key West for tours, rentals, lessons, classes (including PaddleYoga and PaddleFit) and sales as well as branded merchandise. Sue’s fun loving yet hard working business philosophy fit right in with the YOLO Board family, and in addition to being a team racer, she sells and rents YOLO Board products at Lazy Dog.

After spending most of her life as a competitive athlete, Sue was introduced to SUP in 2007 and began racing in 2010. She loves travelling the country with friends and her border collie, Casey, to compete in different venues. A few of her top racing finishes in 2011 include first place in Race the Keys and in the East Coast Paddleboard Championship, fifth place in the Na Pali Coast SUP Downwinder and 17th in the Hennessey’s SUP World Championships.

Always working on something new, Sue is currently finishing her first business and lifestyle book and franchising Lazy Dog.

What or who is your greatest love?
Family, friends and my dog.

What’s your motto in life?
Success is measured by how much fun you have. And lead by example!

In what place do you feel most inspired?
Running and paddling inspire me the most. It’s where all my ideas flow.

What would you consider your greatest achievement?
By far I would say leaving the corporate world to follow my dream of living on an island and creating my own business so I could have my dog with me all the time. Not waiting to fulfill my dream for when I retired. I still can’t believe I left such a great job and opportunity in CT but it was the best decision I ever made.

Who are your heroes in real life?
My parents are great athletes and amazing people.

What is your idea of a perfect day?
A workout down at the beach at 5:30am under the stars with my bootcamp crew, done by 7:00am. Off to work at Lazy Dog with all my friends doing what I love to do, paddleboarding and branding Lazy Dog. Paddle with friends in the afternoon followed by BBQ at the house with friends and dogs, then in my bed by 11:00pm. That’s pretty much my every day – I’m very lucky!
