A semi-retired architect/builder residing in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina, Rand has a long history with competitive paddle sports. From whitewater to open-water racing, the progression to SUP began when he heard about a race in Chattanooga in October 2011. The whole race experience was great fun, and it fit his abilities. From that day on, Rand has been on the podium in nearly every race he has paddled in. He most recently placed 1st Overall in the 9.5 mile James River Challenge, 1st in SUP Sidney, and 1st in the SUP Splash Jam.
Rand was drawn to the sport of standup paddleboard racing as it tests his strength, balance, endurance, and concentration. He is grateful to be part of the YOLO team because it provides camaraderie and support by connecting paddlers who share enthusiasm, creativity and knowledge to promote the YOLO lifestyle.
