Good evening everyone from Torrance, California, staying the night with uncle Bob and Mary and having a great time. We left Washington Sunday night around 5 p.m. (thats right I said we, I have passengers). Our first stop was Pismo Beach and the surf was supper clean but closing out and only surfers were in the water. Next stop was Santa Barbara and did SUP surfing @ Chase Palm Park. The surf was supper clean and about 2 ft of fun!!!!! One of my passengers and it wasn't Dancing Bear took some awesome pics. It's been awhile since my last post and for a good reason. The weather has been awful here, it has rained every day and all day since I've been in Washington. The only day it didn't rain was the day I took out Nathan Grothe from REI on a YOLO Yak it was 40 degrees and he was impressed with the Yak. Hopefully by this time next year REI will be carrying the YOLO Yak.
Yesterday's journey was mostly on the road, left cold and wet Washington around 5 pm and got to warm and sunny Santa Barbara around 230. Met Tom Reilly a local SUP'er and all around waterman from Santa Barbara. Super nice guy, hooked us up with MONA-VIE health drink and some good surf spots. Found this great little park and paddled around and caught some fun little waves. I could have stayed all night and paddled but had to go and meet UB and Mary for dinner. One thing about our area back home is if you want to paddle it is easy and quick to get to some water. Here, you deal with a ton of traffic everywhere you go.
This morning we left around 8 and will drive straight through to Florida. I don't know if I'll another chance to paddle but if I see something really good I'll stop. Once everything is said done Team YOLO would have traveled over 8,000 miles. This trip, the places I've been, paddled and the people that I have met along the way has been a true blessing. I miss home very much and can't wait to paddle back into a line up with the rest of team YOLO. Thanks to everyone at YOLO, YOLO Board Clothing Company and especially my family. I hope you all have enjoyed this blog, I know I sure have enjoyed sharing my journey's with you.
It is true You Only Live Once, so get out there and enjoy the paddle.

Good evening from Eureka, CA got here late, so staying in the luxurious Ocean Grove Lodge at least a 5 star rating in my book. It's the green shag carpet, wood paneling and caved in Queen size bed that did it for me. The best thing was the restaurant, fish tacos with rice and beans are the best ever.
Yesterday was one of the best days on the trip, San Francisco was awesome the Golden Gate and Fort Point National Park. I was at this park for about 2 hours and saw 20 to 30 dogs, a wedding, a fashion shoot, a news broadcast and hula hoop class. There were three other paddlers out on the water, had a conversation with one and he tried out my new Steve Brom YOLO Board. Later that afternoon I made my way to Mount Tamalpais State Park. The one campsite that I wanted was booked for the past seven months but the wonderful ladies at the main park hooked me up. This Campsite was the best by far!!!!!! Cliff side overlooking the Pacific it doesn't get any better then that.
This morning I paddled Tomales Bay and it was smooth and full of wildlife. I chose the YOLO Yak and set it up with the fishing accessories. It was about 3 miles around an island and back, saw all types of birds and sea lions. This place is ruled by kayaks but hopefully I stirred up some excitement on the Yak. Tomales Bay is located Point Reyes National Seashore which is about 40 miles north of San Francisco. Tomales Bay is a 6800 acre estuary located on the central California coast approximately 40 miles northwest of San Francisco.
It is twelve miles long and relatively shallow, occupying the seaward end of a rift valley created by the San Andreas fault. This fault lies underneath the bay and below Highway I, which parallels the east side of the bay. After the paddle, I drove up through the Redwoods and plan on paddle Big Lagoon located in the National Park tomorrow.
This trip sure has open my eyes to the wonders of this planet and I will always try to find new places to paddle.
YOLO everyone.

Good evening from Big Sur State Park!!! I'm never going to leave California this place is truly God's country. Paddle Morro Bay this morning as I was pulling in three women were just finishing up and one had said this is the best sport ever and I concurred. The YOLO truck has generated a lot of interest and I have answered many questions.
It was hard saying good bye to Morro Bay but I had to head on, Big Sur was the destination today. It was only 100 miles or so and took all day the PCH is the best road every made "EVER" who would have thought to make a road along cliffs over looking the Pacific Ocean "he is the man or woman". Made many of stops and took tons of pics and finally made it to Big Sur. Tomorrow I will make it to San Francisco.
Tonight I'm doing my laundry and I will have fresh clean clothes from YOLO Board Clothing Company. Rick, the hoodie is perfect in this kind of weather and we need to look into something better than a full wetsuit. If you fall in it's ok but otherwise it's too hot!!!!!! I'm looking forward to the new line for my next trip. YOLO in Europe!!!!!! LOL, my wife would kill me.
YOLO everyone.

Good evening everyone and welcome to Morro Bay, in translation means Rock Rock, according to a local bartender @ Otter Rocks Cafe in Moor Bay (best fish tacos yet). According to locals the women to men ratio is not good, they say "if you lose a girlfriend , you lose a turn". Morro Bay is located about 200 miles south of San Francisco, it's a cool little town that is struggling just like every other town in the US, a lot like Destin.
Yesterday I left Lake Mead after a short paddle around Lake Mead Marina the Dam was about 10 miles plus to paddle to. I really wasn't digging Lake Mead and wanted to beat the cold front that was pushing down. So after a short and chilly paddle I left for Santa Barbara too see Steve Brom. Steve had shaped a custom 11' SUP for me and I couldn't wait to get there. Got to Steve's shop, meet him, his bird and the blue jays that eat peanuts from his mouth and go to see him shaping a new 12' race board for YOLO. Steve is an awesome dude just living the dream.
This morning I left Refuigo State Park after a little paddle trying to catch some waves at a rocky point. Needless to say the waves were very small and breaking too close to the rocks, so I just paddle around on my new 11' custom Steve Brom Board (sweet and it's better then Gary's) and saw Pacific Coast Dolphins and a Sea Loin and lots Kelp. This state park is totally surfing friendly and there was this one family that caught my eye. Mom, dad and two little boys (had to be home schooled) they had it all, their truck was a converted bread truck attached t0 a storage trailer filled with all types of surfboards, sup's, boogie boards and hand made sail boats for the little ones. They were awesome and loving life.
The drive up north sure has been taken a toll on my nerves. I'm not use to driving in the mountains and all those curves, but it sure is beautiful. Hwy 1 and the 101 are totally the way to go up the coast. Tomorrow I plan on paddle Morro Bay out to the rock but the weather has change. There is cold front that pushed through tonight and the winds are supposed to be 10 to 20 out of the northwest. Later tomorrow I will head toward San Francisco and plan on paddle somewhere near the Golden Gate Bridge and the next couple of days.
I have to say thanks to YOLO apparel for all the warn hoodies and sweatshirts they hooked me up with, it sure is coming in handy.
YOLO everyone.

YOLO adventures of Dancing Bear

Sorry it has taken so long to update this blog everyone, but a lot of driving and dancing bear needs sleep. Ok here we go, Sunday I left New Mexico went through Arizona, drove to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and hiked the rim and took a lot of pics. That is a true wonder, the Canyon is awesome. If you haven't been to the Grand Canyon you need to do so.
Later in the day I drove to Lake Powell and set camp for the night. Setting up camp in the dark is not fun, but the morning is so worth it. Sunrise over Lake Powell is truly beautiful. It sure was cold this morning on the lake and I was not looking forward to freezing out there. So I dressed the part and set off across the lake in wetsuit top, booties and a beanie. By the time I made across I was on fire and the rest of the way I was topless!!!!!! Sorry for that image that just went through your head. Lake Powell is a sure beauty, please google it and see for yourself.
After Lake Powell, Lake Mead is next and that is were I'm blogging you from tonight. The drive from Powell to Mead is totally breathtaking. You drive through Arizona, Utah , Arizona again and then Nevada. To get to Lake Mead (Callville Bay) you must drive this long, curvy, narrow, steep inclines, steep declines, unpaved roads, bumpy roads and totally dark roads. Good news is no one else was on the road and I could drive slowly.
Well please enjoy the pics (YOLO Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/inbox/readmessage.php?t=1209197104208#/group.php?gid=54894446484&ref=ts) and tomorrow night I will blog and post pics from Lake Mead. There is video but I'm waiting until I get enough and to combine and make into one.
Take care and remember You Only Live Once!!!!!! YOLO!!!

Good evening everyone and welcome to Dead Horse Ranch State Park Arizona (fortunately I haven"t seen any dead horses). Yesterday I was at White Sands National Monument, NM, spend some time taking some pics and try to slide down those awesome sand dunes. YOLO needs to design some sand surfing boards. At the Northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert lies a mountain-ringed valley, the Tularosa Basin. Rising from the heart of this is one of the world's great natural wonders---the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert here and created the largest gypsum dune field in the world.
I was fortune it to have spent many of years in the this area and Whites Sands was my favorite, it just misses one thing (water) absolutely no water what-so-ever to be found anywhere. Jim Rapp a buddy of mine from back in the day joined me on this little adventure. Remember if you're plan on doing a photo shoot for your business or to make money on, you must acquire a permit to do so. Thank you Mr. park Ranger for not throwing me in jail. Enjoy the pictures but please don't let them make you decide on buying a YOLO board or YOLO apparel (just buy YOLO cause it is good)

Well Galveston was a bust. No Tanker waves and a bunch of bug bites. Left early this morning and ended up in Guadeloupe State Park (Beautiful). Paddled about 1/2 mile up river and drifted back. It was very peaceful. Guadelupe is about an hour north of San Antonio in the hilly country. It's a emerald green river flowing through bald cypress lined banks and some really cool rock formations. Ran into Eric from www.diefische.wordpress.com , he was down from Austin doing some fishing and stopped me before I left. He had seen the YOLO website and wanted to try the YOLO Yak. Check the pics on YOLO's facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/editphoto.php?oid=54894446484&success=5&failure=0#/group.php?gid=54894446484&ref=ts. If you like any of the YOLO apparel I'm wearing it will soon be available at YOLO Headquarters (new stuff of-course). Thanks Rick and Jeff for all YOLO gear. Ok tomorrow off to Las Cruces and a football game between my old school and our cross town rivals, Go Trojans!!!!!!!!! I'll post again on Friday.
Have a YOLO night!!

The YOLO adventures of Dancing Bear
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Hey everyone, thanks for checking this blog out. First, I want to let you know it won't be a grammatically correct blog, but I'll do my best. Here is a little background on me and how this trip came about. My name is Dave Meadows aka Dancing Bear to some. I'm 42 and have lived here off and on my whole life. I have a very supporting wife and two wonderful children and I manage a local beach service. I have always enjoyed being around water and that is what has drawn me to YOLO. About two months ago I couldn't fall asleep one night and lied there thinking what I could do this winter and that night the YOLO (you only live once) tour of the west was born.
This journey will begin this November and last for 21 days. I will be posting a blog after each stop I make along the way, these are some of the places I 'll be visiting: Galveston, TX, Las Cruces, NM, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Lake Mead, Santa Barbara, CA, Lake Tahoe, CA, Oregon, Puget Sound, WA. I plan on driving straight back and should be home around Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone enjoys the Blog, Pictures and Video.
See if you find the Dancing Bear and any of the photos.
Take Care,
Dave

YOLO Dog Tale
Tuesday, October 6, 2009
I thought you guys would enjoy this picture of my dog Daisy riding on the board. Here's the story behind it - My oldest kid is almost three. She loves to swim, and a couple of weeks ago we were at our family's cabins up in the North Georgia mountains. We have two docks, about a quarter of a mile apart, and if they have the generators running at the dam, there is a little bit of current at our end of the lake. It works out well, because my daughter can put a life jacket on and "swim" between the two docks with an adult just kind of treading water and floating along beside her. So, she was swimming with a friend of ours, and our black lab, Daisy, was really concerned. So much so that anytime one of the three kids who were with us would get in the water, Daisy would swim out there, grab the strap on their life jacket and try and tow them into the shore. It didn't matter if you told her it was okay, she thought they were in trouble and would go try to rescue them. I didn't want her swimming after them for a quarter of a mile over and over again without her life jacket, so I finally let her get up on the board and just ride along beside them.
Ever since then, anytime I get on the board, she runs out to ride with me whether there is someone swimming or not. She sits there just as happy as can be. YOLO Daisy!
